White Labs and
GABF 2008
White Labs customers took home many awards
from the Great American Beer Festival, held Oct. 9-11 in Denver, Colo.
The
medal count for customers included 31 gold, 36 silver and 27 bronze
medals.
In a repeat of last year, White Labs customers swept many
specialty categories. White Labs customers won all three medals in
six categories, including some Belgian-related beers. White Labs
customers won two of the three medals in 25 categories.
In all, 127 judges from 11 countries evaluated
thousands of beers. Chris White, president of White Labs, served as
one of these judges. He tried 151 beers in 2 and a half days of
judging. The styles he judged included American Pale Ale, IPA, Bock,
Session, and American Specialty Lagers
A total of 222 medals were awarded. About 46,000 people
attended. Both these numbers are similar to last year.
White Labs participated in many functions for
brewers. Employees organized the brewers gathering at Wynkoop
Brewing Co. on Wednesday, the evening before opening day. The event
was sponsored by CBQ, which is the newsletter for White Labs and
other companies.
After the first day's festiivities ended on
Thursday, brewers and others gathered at a nearby Rock Bottom
for Rocktoberfest. This event was sponsored by CBQ and others.
White Labs was also a co-sponsor, along
with Hopunion and others, of the AlphaKing Challenge,
held at Falling Rock.
