Toast to 2017 Accomplishments & Cheers to a Prosperous 2018
Happy holidays from White Labs!
In 2017, our team focused on making the best liquid yeast, services and education accessible to people across multiple industries and continents. In doing so, we remained innovative by introducing new strains and opening additional locations, while also improving existing customer programs and offerings.
We kicked off this year by opening White Labs Asheville in January. Producing limited quantities of liquid yeast cultures, this location has been instrumental in making our products and services readily available to customers in the Eastern U.S. region. White Labs Asheville offers will-call pickup to professional customers and overnight ground shipping at a reduced cost to surrounding regions. We hosted our first Yeast Essentials 2.0 workshops in October, which turned out to be a great success and additional dates were added due to its popularity!
When on the topic of Asheville, we must give a shout out to our new boutique restaurant and tasting room--White Labs Kitchen & Tap, which opened in the fall. A new venture for White Labs, the restaurant highlights the culinary art of fermented foods, which are featured alongside White Labs beers made on our 24-hectoliter brewhouse in San Diego, CA. White Labs Kitchen & Tap has been popular among tourists and locals alike, and we invite you to visit this location (if you haven’t already) in the coming year.
Other White Labs locations also had some exciting changes in 2017. White Labs Boulder hosted educational events such as the Fermented Pairings Series and Building a Descriptive Vocabulary. Thanks to our Hong Kong-based location, we were able to ship more yeast to professionals in Asia than ever before. White Labs Copenhagen added more employees and relocated to a larger facility, which gives them the opportunity to increase production and better serve our customers in Europe.
This year, we made various updates to our customer programs. The strains from our yeast bank were categorized as either ‘Core’ or ‘Vault’ for easy ordering. We released and added new strains to The Vault for Homebrewers, transitioned the Freshness Assurance Program to an easier and cost-saving Freshness Certification Program for retailers and homebrew wholesalers, provide retailers access to Vault strains through the Vault Seasonal Release program and analyzed a number of beers for our bi-annual Big QC Day program. These improvements and modifications were made based on your feedback, and we thank you for letting us know how we could better serve you.
Additionally, to ensure all packages leaving our facility arrive in the most optimal temperature and freshest state possible, our shipping team implemented the use of upgraded packaging. We now utilize custom boxes with foil insulated bags and ice packs to keep your orders fresh. At White Labs, we're committed to doing our best to provide you with the freshest yeast possible...and this new improvement was just another small stride!
2018 will be a year focused on customer satisfaction. While there are many components to achieving this for all our customers, we will focus specifically on providing high-quality products, improving our on-time delivery and ensuring accurate shipping information is available. One of the exciting offerings we will launch in 2018 is a mobile app for easy browsing and ordering, which will make placing orders a quick (almost) effortless task. This development comes in response to your comments and concerns regarding ordering efficiency.
To kick the year off, we are updating our Core strains to focus on the best-selling strains and adding new specialty strains to The Vault for all customers. Also, we will host more educational workshops for professionals and homebrewers and begin offering webinars for our most popular classes. A preliminary list is already up on our website, we hope you will join us. Customer programs such as the Freshness Certification Program, Vault Seasonal Releases, The Vault for Homebrewers and Big QC Day will again be offered. New offerings for distilling customers and advanced testing on our yeast will also be introduced, with additional details to follow in the coming weeks and months.
Whether you’re a homebrewer, retailer, wholesaler or professional, our overall goal in 2018 is to better serve you by further streamlining our processes and company-wide operations. On behalf of the entire White Labs team (150 employees and counting), I want to thank you for your continued business and support. We look forward to serving you in the coming years and being a partner for all your fermentation need. Cheers to you and a prosperous 2018!
