Under the Microscope: WLP351 Bavarian Weizen Yeast

WLP351 made its debut as a Platinum Strain last year and, due to huge popularity, is now available year round. Our Bavarian Weizen Yeast is ideally suited to producing German-style wheat beers, offering lovely clove notes and little to moderate ester production.

This versatile yeast creates complex flavors that cater to a wide range of styles including roggenbiers, weizenbocks, dunkelweisses and hefes, among others. We love this strain for the creamy mouthfeel it can create, as well as its spice character and subtle banana/fruit notes. A wonderous strain suited to all things German (and beyond)!

what species of yeast it it?

Saccharomyces cerevisae.

How does it differ from WLP380? I tried that for a few brews and was pretty happy with it. My experience with the 380 makes it seem very similar to 351.
