Production

Production Assistant

Summary: Under direction of the Production Supervisor, the Production Assistant is trained on, and responsible for all aspects of the production cycle. Daily duties could include tasks in Pre-Production, Start Team or Harvest Team. It is the responsibility of the Production Assistant to follow all established SOPs and propagate yeast according to the production schedule.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Utilizes autoclave to ensure required materials and equipment are sterilized and ready to use when needed.
  • Responsible for transportation of materials between the production and cold storage rooms.
  • Assembles and fills vessels in accordance with SOPs.
  • Samples, tests gravity and pitches yeast into vessels.
  • Participates in daily cleaning routine of production work space.
  • Performs steam sanitization of process piping (SIP).
  • Utilizes lab centrifuge in order to obtain accurate cell counts.
  • Calibrates and ensures accuracy of Clean Room equipment including scale and PH probe.
  • Operates the Harvest Sealer to remove propagation portion of vessel in addition to creating QC packs for testing.
  • Responsible for proper labeling and storage or finished harvested yeast.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year of applicable experience.  Clean room experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs required.

 

Physical Demands

Medium work:  Employee may, or may not, have a workstation or office.  Time spent conducting sedentary work is less than 25%.  Requires walking, standing and/or driving for more than 75% of the workday.  Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Work environment is wet/humid and position may encounter hot/cold conditions.

Shipping/Receiving

Shipping Assistant

Summary: The Shipping Assistant is responsible for pulling, packing and shipping customer orders in accordance with Company procedure. Additionally, this position is responsible for keeping the shipping area cold box and warehouse clean and organized.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Fulfills, assembles and packages both Pro and Home Brew customer orders in accordance with company procedure.
  • Assembles boxes and other packaging materials as required.
  • Monitors inventory levels of packaging supplies, notifying Buyer/Supply Chain when reordering is necessary.
  • Prepares shipping documents including address labels and customs forms.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of warehouse, cold box and receiving area(s).
  • Notifies management of product integrity or inventory concerns.
  • Assists with receiving of goods and supplies as required.   

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and interpret Accounting invoices as well as product labels.
  • Experience with UPS/FedEx/DHL shipping software preferred.
  • NetSuite ERP experience a plus.
  • Able to communicate effectively across multiple departments.

Equipment Maintenance Specialist

Summary: The Process Equipment Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining optimum asset health for all manufacturing process equipment, systems, and structures by performing inspections, repairs and modifications to equipment and structures of facility.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Completes daily walk-through of manufacturing areas to ensure all process equipment, including Brew House, Clean Room and Packaging Hall, is in working order.
  •  Anticipates and identifies potential process equipment problems and proactively addresses, communicating information to appropriate departments as required.
  • Troubleshoots and performs maintenance work on process equipment in a professional and timely manner.
  • Initiates actions to prevent problems, documents quality problems, contributes solutions to problems, and verifies implementation of solutions. Control further processing when a problem is identified.
  • Schedules and performs preventative maintenance on process equipment and maintains accurate records.
  • Assists in plant maintenance and projects as required.
  • Ensures a safe working environment for employees by maintaining facility and equipment in optimal working conditions. 
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High School Diploma required.  BA/BS preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in food manufacturing, production, or biotechnology facility.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance tracking systems, planning and scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of low voltage networking and networking punch down.
  • Experience and understanding of automated manufacturing systems and strong computer interface knowledge.
  • Possess the ability to use hand tools & power tools.
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair Welding, Mechanical, Fabrication, Electrical, hydraulics, and Pneumatics problems.
  • PLC programming experience a bonus

Packaging Technician

Summary: By operating a variety of equipment, the Packaging Technician is responsible for the preparation and packaging of final goods for delivery to the customer.

Essential Functions & Duties 

This can include a variety of tasks including dividing bulk yeast packaging, applying final packaging skins onto PurePitch retail yeast, or preparing a variety of nutrients and enzymes for retail sale.  This position may also be responsible for custom blends for customers.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year experience in a manufacturing/warehouse/shipping environment a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs and order invoices.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance a plus.

  • Flexible schedule to accommodate Packaging department needs.

 

Physical Demands

Marketing & Creative Services Coordinator

Summary: The Marketing and Creative Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating creative services and contributing to day-to-day functions of the department.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Researches advertising opportunities and compiles media kits from various industry publications
  • Makes recommendations on outlets in which advertising budget should be spent
  • Negotiates advertising buys
  • Works with graphic designer to create advertisements
  • Is liaison between Marketing Manager and graphic artists and requests jobs as needed
  • Maintains creative services spreadsheet that outlines all creative needs, deadlines, quotes, budget and details for each job
  • Gets quotes from external companies to accomplish various creative services jobs and makes suggestion on which business to use for fulfillment
  • Ensures quotes for all creative services stay within specified budget
  • Coordinates the payment of invoices for creative services
  • Submits new vendor and sales order requests per company guidelines for all creative services jobs and tasks
  • Receives and coordinates various creative requests from other White Labs departments and ensures delivery by specified deadline
  • Reviews and proofs creative materials for consistency, grammar and completion of prior edits before submitting to Marketing Manager for approval
  • Coordinates and ensures all sponsorship fulfillment creative requests are completed by deadlines
  • Ensures all creative services projects are submitted with appropriate approvals by deadline
  • Creates and maintains SOPs for creative service requests
  • Obtains appropriate approvals on all creative service requests prior to production
  • Assists with special projects
  • Researches various vendors to fulfill creative service jobs
  • Maintains database of vendors in which we may use to fulfill creative service jobs
  • Assists with the completion of annual budget
  • Assists with the development and completion of a yearly marketing plan
  • Helps develop yearly marketing campaigns that align and assist with company sales goals
  • Participates and contribute to weekly marketing meetings and brainstorms
  • Orders marketing inventory items and ensure reorder once specified amounts reach pre-determined levels
  • Assists with month end inventory counts of marketing items
  • Makes suggestions on promotional and giveaway items for events
  • Help with creative direction of advertising
  • Assists with coordination of content and creative for monthly Customer Club, Pro, Retail and San Diego/Asheville local e-newsletters
  • Retain stock of product photos and all artwork assets 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing or related field strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of creative services or marketing experience required.
  • Beer and brewing industry knowledge a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign a plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications required, project-based programs such as Trello preferred.

Physical Demands

Summary: The Territory Sales Representative ensures the implementation of all sales and marketing programs for the entire WL portfolio in their specified Territory. This individual must be highly motivated, have high energy, and have an entrepreneurial spirit to sell, train, manage, and drive new business revenue. The ideal candidate would live in or near Asheville, NC.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Regular interaction with product managers and executives to coordinate regional sales campaigns
  • Extensive customer visits in the defined region and technical support. Expected travel approximately 40 -50%.
  • Work closely with the North American Sales Manager to develop specific plans to ensure growth over all company products and implement these plans.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in industry organizations.
  • Regular review of sales numbers and budgets in region.
  • Responsible for planning and hosting shows, along with attending and participating in trade show events.
  • Understanding of the market including customers and competition.
  • Responding to and handling customer complaints in the area.
  • Work with any wholesalers, distributors, and retailers to manage sales and inventory in region
  • Utilizing company software to enter and update sales orders and customer information including leads, opportunities.
  • Work closely with Customer Service Representatives, Production Managers, and utilize company software to understand and communicate product availability to customers.

Necessary, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or other related field.
  • 3+ years of outside sales experience.
  • Consumer packaged goods sales experience a plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to engage in a consultative sales approach with breweries, wineries, and distilleries.
  • Working knowledge of the brewing process and fundamentals of fermentation a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
