White Labs and VP honored honored: White Labs and Vice President Lisa White (pictured at right) were presented with the "Business Enterprise of the Year" award by the National Latina Business Women Association - San Diego Chapter. The association presented the award at its annual luncheon on Friday, Feb. 24. This award is presented to a "company and its founder/owner for notable growth and longevity in the marketplace, in addition to being a leader in an industry and a role model with notable contribution (s) to community service," the association said.. New for 2012: White Labs is releasing many new strains and products for 2012, including a revised Platinum schedule for seasonal strains. Besides releasing new strains and making former seasonal strains available full-time, White Labs is also planning other upgrades for the new year including the opening of a tasting room and experimental brewery. Lab catalog: The lab section of the White Labs website has been updated with the new Analytical Testing Services catalog. Updated Nov. 14, 2011.

Yeastman update: If you are a brewer and have ordered through Yeastman®, have the yeast availability dates not always worked around your brewing schedule? Now, you can make your special date request directly in Yeastman, and if it is approved your order will proceed with no further effort needed on your part. This is part of the continuing updates to Yeastman, White Labs' tracking and ordering system. Updated Nov. 14, 2011.

Distilling workshop: White Labs has concluded its 2nd annual Distilling and Fermentation Workshop. The workshop was a big success and participants had a lot to say about the training and what they learned. Updated Oct. 10, 2011

New strain update: Brewers reacted with enthusiasm in June when White Labs released WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast. The company introduced it as a limited release and said it would discontinue the strain in August. However, because of the overwhelming reaction, the strain, which is reported to be a vigorous fermenter, has been added to the regular lineup. Stores and brewers can order the strain year-round for the foreseeable future. Updated Sept. 7, 2011. 

Texas brewing news: Chris White and Lisa White (pictured below right) gave talks at the 2011 Summer Conference of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, District Texas, in late July. Chris White, president of White Labs, gave a talk titled "Yeast: The Final Essential of all Beer," while Vice President Lisa White's session was titled "Quality at your Fingertips: Hands on Microbiology for Brewers." One participant wrote to Lisa afterwards, "The technical program in Texas was great. I wish it could have lasted all day!" Updated Aug. 22, 2011.

Sweet wine yeast: A number of people have contacted White Labs concerning the so-called WLP721 Sweet Wine Yeast II. While discussions have taken place about the blended strain, it is not currently in production and there is no timetable for release. Updated Aug. 11, 2011.

NHC news: White Labs people were heavily involved in the National Homebrewing Conference held June 16-18 for a number of reasons, including the fact the event was held in the company's home city. Chris White (pictured below, signing autographs of his new yeast book) gave a presentation about selecting the correct yeast strain for your beer. Hundreds of homebrewers dropped by the company's booth, where visitors picked up shirts, yeast posters and advice. Updated June 20, 2011.

Mayor tours White Labs: The groundbreaking featuring Mayor Jerry Sanders was a big hit (see the photo above). Hundreds of people attending the BNA6 flooded into the new WL facility after Sanders cut the ribbon, officially opening the complex. Mayor Sanders presented White Labs with a proclamation declaring June 15 as "White Labs Day." Updated June 17, 2011.

More mayor news: San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders declared June 2011 "San Diego Craft Beer Month." The ceremony was attended by personnel from Ballast Point, Green Flash, the San Diego Brewers Guild and White Labs. Vice President Lisa White and others made speeches during the event, which was a prelude to other activities during the month. Updated June 10, 2011.
